The Worshipful Master and Brethren of The Lodge of St George No.1152 E.C. Singapore, greets you and welcome you to our website. We are one of the oldest Lodges in Singapore Freemasonry as well as in South East Asia under the auspices of the United Grand Lodge of England in London. In this site, you will learn more about Freemasonry, freemasonry in Singapore, and the Mason’s busy social agenda.
Charity Works
From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been involved in charitable activities, and since its inception it has provided support for many widows and orphans of Freemasons as well as many others within the community.
All monies raised for charity are drawn from amongst Freemasons, their families and friends while grants and donations are made to Masonic and non-Masonic charities alike. It is however entirely up to the individual member what he gives to Charity, but it should always be without detriment to his other responsibilities.
The Lodge of St George No 1152 E.C. regularly support charities through regular and one-off donations. These charities are outlined by the Worship Master in his year of office and all funds raised throughout the year are donated to that charity.

Ladies’ Night
A Ladies’ Night is held once a year to thank the ladies of the Lodge – wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers - for their support of the activities of the members of the Lodge. This is – usually, although not always – a formal dinner and held in March or April. Apart from the monthly regular meeting, members of the Lodge may attend a practice meeting and a committee meeting, not to mention other ad hoc activities such as charity events. This, sometimes, takes up time that would otherwise be spent with the family. Because we believe that without the support of one’s family, it is not possible for the brother to wholeheartedly and, therefore, effectively participate in activities organized by the Lodge, it is a great comfort to the members of the Lodge that their ladies appreciate the time spent by the brother in Lodge activities and events such as spending time at the Cheshire Home or at the Melrose Home (Children’s Aid Society). The debt owed by a freemason to the lady/ies in his life is a significant and continuing one. The Ladies’ Night is a small way of repaying this debt.
Installation Night
Once a year, according to ancient custom, a member of the Lodge is installed as Master. During his period of office – 1 year – the Lodge’s activities and ceremonies proceed under his direction. The Master is elected by its members by ballot and is drawn from among the numbers of members who have served as a Warden of the Lodge or another Lodge in the same Constitution. This is the highlight of the Lodge’s masonic calendar and many brethren from other Lodges in Singapore and overseas attend this event.
White Table Night
This is a formal dinner – known as a festive board - held after the December meeting. Usually, non-masons are not invited to Lodge dinners but this is the exception. Ladies and other guests, including potential candidates, are welcome to attend they sit down to a lovely Christmas dinner. Before the dinner, however, guests are invited – after the Lodge meeting is over – to attend a brief explanation of freemasonry and hear a little bit about the history of the Lodge that was founded in 1867.
Beer & Curry Nights
After the Lodge’s practice meeting which – emergencies excepted – is held on the second Tuesday of each month, potential candidates are invited to informally meet with members of the Lodge over drinks and a curry. This is an opportunity to get to know potential candidates in an informal atmosphere and to answer any questions they may have about freemasonry in general and the Lodge in particular.
Social evenings
From time to time – usually but no always every 3 months – the Lodge organizes events where members, their families and other guests (including potential candidates) meet in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Because so many members of the Lodge travel overseas, it is not uncommon for some to not be able to regularly attend formal meetings of the Lodge. The social evenings are an opportunity to meet with them and keep in touch. At these functions, the activities of the Lodge are communicated to wives, family members and significant others of its members so that they are fully apprised of the good works in which the Lodge is engaged. This makes it easier to receive support from wives, girlfriends and family of the members in the event that the members of the Lodge have to attend events organized by the Lodge. |
